Tiles can be cleaned using our soft wash method which is spraying on a chemical to break down the mould and dirt and then rinsed off clean. Colourbond requires the surface cleaner at about 2500psi and may require some chemical application for stubborn mould.

    Our surface cleaner does not have the wheels attached like some competitors do because this may scratch your roof. Lastly terracotta tiles need to be sprayed with chemical and then pressured cleaned with a turbo nozzle but with not to much pressure or they will be damaged.

    What is Growing On Your Roof?

    Sometimes you may wonder what those black streaks and green fury blotches on your roof are from. It is a type of algae called Gloeocapsa Magma that feeds on concrete and terracotta roof tiles. It is a type of algae that thrives in humid and warm climates such as ours here in Brisbane. Rain then spreads the algae down the roof causing the black streaks. The black streaks are very likely to harbor a number of moulds or fungi. Fungi normally begin their life cycle as an airborne spore that settles on roofs, especially the terracotta tiles. The spores on the southern side of the roof stand a better chance of survival because that area of the roof is the last part to dry after a rain due to the shade. This raises the humidity on the surface of the tile, thus creating a perfect feeding and breeding ground for mould or fungi.
